The FUNR Lab at Stanford University ( of the Departments of Biochemistry and Developmental Biology and supervised by Florentine Rutaganira, is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 1 (2 year fixed-term) to provide laboratory support for implementation of targeted genetics for multiple research projects. The FUNR lab is interested in understanding the origin of cell-cell communication in animals in order to discover new ways to treat human disease. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator that values integrity and has self-management skills that enable the candidate to organize and complete tasks based on priority. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to scientific discovery that intersects chemical biology, biochemistry, evolution and developmental biology in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.
The LSRP 1 will primarily provide technical support for reverse genetics (CRISPR-mediated genome editing) and will provide backup support for day-to-day functions and activities in the FUNR lab. Responsibilities primarily include generation and phenotyping of edited cell lines. The LSRP1 will also provide backup support for preparation of cell culture media and molecular biology solutions, maintenance of cell lines, stocking the laboratory with research supplies, maintenance of laboratory inventory, and other duties as assigned. Previous experience with maintenance of cell cultures (microbial and/or mammalian) is desirable. Candidates without cell culturing experience will be provided training. The LSRP 1 is expected to maintain meticulous lab records, adhere to safety regulations, provide feedback for optimizing lab workflows, stay up-to-date with relevant literature, and attend lab meetings and journal clubs. A 2-year commitment is desired with ideal start date beginning in July 2025.
**Duties include:**
- Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects in lab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory.
- Independently conduct experiments; maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
- Apply the theories and methods of a life science discipline to interpret and perform analyses of experiment results; offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with senior researcher.
- Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research.
- Contribute to publication of findings as needed. Participate in the preparation of written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals.
- Help with general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed.
- Assist with orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques.
- Learn new techniques and approaches and optimize workflows for existing techniques and approaches.

The expected pay range for this position is $31.40 to $38.89 per hour.

**DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:**
- A Bachelor's degree in the life sciences (e.g. Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Plant Biology, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Neuroscience, Bioengineering, Parasitology) or related scientific field is desired
- The following qualifications are beneficial: previous experience with molecular biology techniques including work with recombinant DNA, protein expression and purification, nucleic acid and gel electrophoresis, colorimetric assays; previous experience with cell biology techniques including sterile microbial and/or mammalian cell culturing, cell viability and reporter assays, cell immunostaining
**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):**
Bachelor's degree in related scientific field.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):**
- General understanding of scientific principles. Demonstrated performance to use knowledge and skills when needed.
- Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge of science principals to problem solve work.

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:**
- Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
- Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.
- Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.
- Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
- Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a dusty, dirty, and odorous environment.
- Position may require repetitive motion.
