Job Description

Overview General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems manufactures and sells a broad range of high-performance electro-mechanical and electro-optical components and sub-assemblies to the aerospace, defense, intelligence, reconnaissance, and surveillance markets. We presently have a need for a Principal Electrical Engineer at our San Diego (Otay Mesa) location . This position involves planning and implementing the design, manufacture, installation, and/or maintenance of electrical systems and apparatus, such as electric motors, machinery controls, lighting, wiring, and power systems/devices, for the generation, transmission, and control of electric power. This role is eligible for a referral bonus. Preferred experience for this role: Designs and develops new brushed and multiphase brushless DC electric motors. Improves existing designs to reduce cost, enhance performance, or manufacturability. Conducts detailed reviews of customer specifications. Prepares or oversees the preparation of product and/or system layouts and detailed drawings and schematics. Performs design experiments related to motor designs and develops test methods, from concept to planning and execution. Directs and coordinates manufacturing and testing of prototype products and systems. Assists in troubleshooting prototype building and production when necessary. Conducts motor performance predictions through analysis of actual data and development of design-related algorithms, in addition to existing methods. May act as project engineer support on selected projects. Interfaces with customers as required to support existing products or new development opportunities. Major Position Responsibilities Designs, develops, and tests electrical equipment, components, circuits, or systems. Applies mathematical and engineering principles to designs. Performs extensive testing and validation to ensure reliability, performance, and safety standards are met. Conducts research and explores new technologies to innovate and design solutions or products. Basic Qualifications Required Education and Experience: Associate's Degree and 8-10 years of experience. Preferred Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree. Discipline/Major: Electrical Engineering or related Engineering degree. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Oral and written communication, analytical thinking, circuit design, computer skills, simulation, design optimization, electrical engineering, mathematical analysis, mathematical modeling, programming, prototyping, reliability analysis, requirements engineering/analysis, research and development, schematic capture, electro-mechanical components/instruments, CAD software, and computer-aided engineering (CAE) software. Critical professional technical skills include proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Pay Range (USD) $102,410 - $190,190 Pay Transparency Statement The salary range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum for this position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, internal equity, and relevant education or training.
