Job Description

Our client is seeking a highly experienced EPC Counsel to join its dynamic energy and infrastructure team in Houston. The ideal candidate will provide strategic legal counsel on large-scale EPC contracts, supporting clients through all phases of project development and execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contract Negotiation & Drafting: Lead the negotiation and drafting of sophisticated EPC agreements, including balance of plant (BOP), construction, and equipment supply contracts for utility-scale energy projects.
  • Project Lifecycle Support: Provide legal guidance throughout the project lifecycle, from development and financing to construction and operation, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential legal and commercial risks in EPC arrangements and develop mitigation strategies to protect client interests.
  • Client Collaboration: Work closely with clients, including developers, sponsors, and contractors, to understand their objectives and deliver practical legal solutions aligned with business goals.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including finance, regulatory, and environmental experts, to facilitate seamless project execution.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school; admission to the Texas Bar or eligibility for admission by motion.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of legal experience with a focus on EPC contracts within the energy sector, preferably gained at a top-tier law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in handling complex EPC transactions, including familiarity with industry-standard forms and customization to suit project-specific needs.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex legal issues, assess risks, and provide clear, concise advice to clients and internal teams.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Team Orientation: Proven track record of working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, with a commitment to mentorship and knowledge sharing.
